The Ironbridge Gorge Museums, Shropshire are introducing a new, superb value, annual family pass from 1 st April, which will allow unlimited daytime access into all ten museums for two adults and up to three children. Valid for one year from the date of purchase, the new style passes will also be available for adults and children only and those aged over sixty. All existing Passport entry tickets will be honoured (which the new annual pass replaces).
Families will find the new annual passes are excellent value for money; even if they only visit Blists Hill Victorian Town and one of the other larger sites once, it will pay for itself – and the more they visit, the greater the value.
Perhaps the most popular museums for families are Blists Hill Victorian Town, where they can get a taste of life over a hundred years ago, and the Enginuity design and technology centre. Visitors to Enginuity from Easter onwards will be able to try out new bigger and better interactives and see technology in action close up at the new Demo Desks. An array of weird and wonderful activities will also be held here during the year including Wacky Wheels, when teams build and race buggies on a race track and Meccanuity which involves making bizarre machines from Meccano.
Both Coalport China Museum and the recently restored Jackfield Tile Museum also run creative, drop-in, workshops during school holidays where children can try their hand at Victorian crafts such as china painting, clay modelling and tile decorating.
The new annual passes are priced at £46 for families, £14 for adults, £12.50 for the sixty plus and £9.50 for children (up to 18 years or in full time education). Annual pass holders can come back as often as they like to all of the museums, during normal opening hours for a whole year. Additional costs apply for some activities and workshops, including all evening events. For those on a shorter time scale, individual admission is available into any of the sites.
The museums are generally open seven days a week from 10am until 5pm; some close or reduce their opening hours November to March inclusive and all are closed on 24 and 25 December and 1 January, visitors should call to check winter opening before travelling. Activities and workshops vary day-to-day, for further information, contact the Ironbridge Tourist Information Centre on Tel: 01952 884 391 or visit www.ironbridge.org.uk. The Gorge is easily reached via the M6 and M54 motorways exiting at Telford (M54 junction 4 or 6).
